Stay In, Drop Out
Galerie Stephanie presents the second solo exhibition of painter and ceramicist Genavee Lazaro entitled “Stay In, Drop Out”. Here, she takes a playful approach on isolation brought about by the recent quarantine, where she and her “cactus friends” journey into their own world while venturing on mundane things. Inspired by psychologist Dr. Timothy Leary’s “Turn on, tune in, drop out” psychedelic anthem, Lazaro points out the dynamic ways of how humans deal with isolation, and how their abstracted visions are really lucid reflections of who they truly are.
Lazaro (b.1994) is a graduate of the University of the Philippines Diliman who majored in sculpture. Although based in Laguna, she continues to participate in various group exhibits like those in Eskinita Art Gallery, Kaida Contemporary, Boston Gallery and in Galerie Stephanie. She contributed as a studio assistant in the College of Fine Arts in her alma mater until 2018, and while she is not busy with artmaking, she conducts pottery workshops
